GAMECOCK NOTABLES

  • South Carolina’s success has been built on both sides of the ball as the Gamecocks are fourth in the country in scoring offense (83.4) and 29th in scoring defense (56.3). Both numbers are markedly improved over last season – 83.4 ppg compared to 75.3; 56.3 46.7 percent shooting compared to 43.6 percent; opponents ppg compared to 66.8; opponents shooting 33.2 percent compared to 39.6 percent.
  • South Carolina’s offense is among the most versatile in the country with eight different Gamecocks leading the team in scoring at least once this season, including six who have led in at least one SEC game. Nine Gamecocks have scored in double figures in at least one SEC game.
  • Averaging a double-double vs. the SEC play and ranked teams, Aliyah Boston is having one of the best freshman seasons in program history as she is ahead of the pace marked by the program’s last two SEC Freshman of the Year winners – Alaina Coates (2014) and A’ja Wilson (2015). Boston’s 13.3 points per game edges out Wilson’s 13.1, and her 9.0 rebounds per game are just ahead of Coates’ 8.4. Boston’s 2.9 blocks per game and .631 field goal percentage are ahead of Coates’ marks (2.1, .612) as well. Her five double-doubles in SEC games matches Coates’ for the program’s freshman record, and her nine overall double-doubles is one shy of Coates’ mark.
  • The youthful Gamecocks have been led masterfully by seniors Tyasha Harris and Mikiah Herbert Harrigan, who have used their vast experience to help the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class adjust to the brightest spotlight smoothly. The senior duo has a resume that includes the 2017 National Championship and SEC regular-season title and two SEC Tournament crowns (2017, 2018). The Gamecocks are 33-17 against ranked opponents during their career.
  • Freshman Zia Cooke has consistently shown the ability to rise to the occasion as her 12.4 points per game for the season include a team-high 15.1 in SEC play and 13.1 against ranked teams.
