Cal Named January’s NCEA Horse of the Month
Waco, Texas – Cal, a valued part of the South Carolina equestrian jumping seat stable, has earned the National Collegiate Equestrian Association’s Horse of the Month award for January, NCEA officials announced on Monday.
Calumpi, or as he’s affectionally know at OneWood Farm, Cal, joined the Gamecock equestrian team last spring and has quickly made an impact. He’s been part of three Most Outstanding Player rides this season, including junior Tyler Petire’s career best 87-point flat ride, earning her M.O.P. honors against Sweet Briar on Jan. 31.
“We have only had Cal since last spring but he has proved invaluable to us both on the flat and over fences,” head coach Boo Major said. “His beautiful way of going on the flat and his bravery over the jumps makes him a huge asset to our program and we are so lucky to have him.”
Cal and the Gamecocks are off this weekend ahead of next week’s senior day meet against Georgia. Action for that meet is set to get underway at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 22.
