Petrie Named SEC Flat Rider of the Month

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina equestrian junior Tyler Petrie added some hardware to her trophy case when she was named the SEC Flat Rider of the Month for January, conference officials announced on Wednesday.
 
Petrie scored a career-best 87 in her lone flat ride of the month, securing the first Most Outstanding Player on the flat honor of her career as the No. 3 Gamecocks hosted Sweet Briar for a jumping seat competition on Jan. 31.
 
The Medina, Ohio native is the first rider to win multiple SEC Rider of the Month awards this season after she earned the SEC Fences Rider of the Month award for September. Petrie has already tied her previous season-high of six fences wins, and her award-winning flat ride against Sweet Briar was the first win on the flat of her career.
 
Carolina has the weekend off ahead of Senior Day next weekend against Georgia. That meet is set for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, Feb. 22.
