Senior Spotlight: Madelynne Herlocker
Few women can mean as much to a program as Madelynne Herlocker does to the South Carolina equestrian team. October 2019’s NCEA Standout Athlete of the Month has made an impact on the Gamecock equestrian team that will be felt for years to come.
“Maddie is the conscience of our team,” head coach Boo Major said of Herlocker. “She is the epitome of someone you’d want on your team due to her dedication. It doesn’t matter if it’s her team, coaches, athletics department, university, or the Columbia community overall. Maddie is fiercely loyal and dedicated.”
Herlocker’s efforts in the classroom have landed her on the SEC Academic Honor Roll all three years of her time in Columbia, and she’s made the NCEA Academic Honor Roll once. Over the summer Herlocker represented the University of South Carolina at the Tiger Leadership summit. Upon returning to Columbia for the fall semester Herlocker took on a role on the University Athletic Advisory Committee where she represents the student-athletes.
In October Herlocker represented the SEC as the lone female student-athlete representative at the Women Leaders in College Sports. While there, Herlocker had the opportunity to hear a variety of speakers, attend breakout sessions, and meet multiple women who have had success in the college sports industry.
Herlocker is set to graduate in May with a sports management degree.
