Gamecocks Finish ITA Indoors with Win Over Wisconsin
MADISON, WIS. — No. 14 South Carolina men’s tennis rebounded Sunday night, knocking of the host of the 2020 ITA National Team Indoors, Wisconsin, 4-1. Four singles victories delivered the program’s first win at the event since 1992.
The Gamecocks shook off losing the doubles point quickly in singles as No. 50 Paul Jubb dominated Colton Chase 6-1, 6-0 to set the tone at the top of the lineup.
No. 39 Raphael Lambling needed just a little more time to pick up his 6-3, 6-4 win in the No. 2 spot. After leveling his match at a set apiece, No. 38 Daniel Rodrigues brought the Gamecocks within a point of the victory with a powerful 6-2 third-set in the No. 3 match.
The three remaining matches were all in third sets with Phillip Jordan and Jake Beasley rallying from a set down to force the decisive set in the Nos. 4 and 5 matches.
In the No. 6 match, Brown split the first two sets before shaking off a tough tiebreak loss in his second to power past Robert Parts 6-2 and end the weekend on a high note for the Gamecocks.
