Hilton Head, S.C. – The No. 4 South Carolina women’s golf team fought through some windy conditions to end the first day of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate tied for 11th place.

“It was a very difficult and windy day,” head coach Kalen Anderson said. “Ana had an exceptional day shooting even-par for us. Pauline was feeling under the weather and still played really good. The conditions were difficult but we weren’t as tough as we needed to be. We need to be better, from top to bottom, over the weekend. We’re going to work on being sharper and hope to come back better tomorrow.”

Senior Ana Pelaez led the way for the Gamecocks with her even-par 71, tied for third place individually.

Freshman Pauline Roussin-Bouchard found a groove on the back nine to finish with a 4-over 75, while fellow freshman Mathilde Claisse celebrated her birthday with 6-over 77.

Wake Forest holds the lead after one round with a plus-3 287.
