Jubb Notches Two ITA Regional Awards

COLUMBIA, S.C.South Carolina men’s tennis senior Paul Jubb wrapped up his Gamecock career by taking home two ITA Regional Awards. The Hull, England, native took home the ITA Carolina Region Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership & Sportsmanship award for the second straight season and picked up the ITA Carolina Region Most Improved Senior award as well.

The nominees for the Arthur Ashe Jr. award are judged on athletic performance, sportsmanship, leadership, character, scholastic achievements and extracurricular achievements and honors.

On the heels of his 2019 National Championship, Jubb got off to a strong start in the spring, registering a 7-4 singles record, with three nationally ranked wins out of the No. 1 position. Jubb was a steady force in doubles as well, going 10-5 with multiple partners.

Off the court, Jubb stood out in the classroom, being named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in both 2018 and 2019 while majoring in Retailing. The senior leader also did his part in the Columbia community, volunteering at the local Children’s Hospital.

The regional winners of this award are now in contention for the ITA/Rafael Osuna National Award, which will be announced on Sunday. He would be the second Gamecock to capture that award after Chris Mayotte in 1979.

Jubb also took home the Most Improved Senior award, which is awarded to the senior that shows the most improvement over the course of their four years. As a freshman, Jubb played in the No. 6 position, going 11-3 on the season. His sophomore year, he moved up into the No. 2 position and didn’t skip a beat, doubling his win total, going 24-11 on the year. His rapid accent was highlighted with a program record breaking junior year, winning 38 matches in route to a National Championship
