Lois Kaye Go Named SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina senior Lois Kaye Go continues to make history for the Gamecock golf program, this time earning the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year award for women’s golf for the second year in a row, SEC officials announced on Wednesday.

“There is no person more deserving of SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight season than Lois Kaye Go,” head coach Kalen Anderson said. “Even more impressive, LK has maintained a 4.0 GPA in finance and accounting for four straight years. Furthermore, LK currently maintains the Gamecock women’s golf career low scoring average record (72.65). LK epitomizes the terms ‘student’ and ‘athlete.’ LK continues to set an example on the golf course and in the classroom, but her consistently positive attitude is an example from which everyone can learn.”

Through her time in Columbia Go has continuously demonstrated leadership on and off the course. A three-time All-America honoree, tied for the most in program history, Go also earned the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year award in 2019. She is the only two-time winner of the award in Gamecock golf history.

Go’s 4.0 grade point average is impressive enough, but when combined with her program record scoring average of 72.65, the magnitude of her efforts becomes clear. Two of the lowest single season scoring averages belong to Go (72.45 in 2018 and 72.82 in 2019, good for fifth and ninth respectively). Go was also named the South Carolina Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2020, and she earned CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honors in 2019.

The senior plans to return for a final season with the Gamecocks after the 2019-20 season ended abruptly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
