Senior Spotlight: Anita Uwadia
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina senior Anita Uwadia didn’t garner headlines like some of her teammates, but her impact on the team went deeper than that surface level stuff. Known for her dedication and drive to make everyone around her better, Uwadia provided a spark for the Gamecocks that endeared her to her teammates, coaches, and anyone that worked with her.
“Anita is an explosive and incredibly talented player,” head coach Kalen Anderson said. “She leads through her dedication to her teammates and her strong work ethic.”
Uwadia appeared in 30 tournaments during her time in Columbia, where she shined in match play. As a junior Uwadia finished 6-0-0 in match play where she went 3-0-0 at the Liz Murphey Classic, helping the Gamecocks earn the first match play event win in program history. She followed that up with a 3-0-0 performance in the match play portion of the 2019 SEC Championship where Carolina finished in second place.
“Anita is such a hard worker and so physically gifted,” assistant coach Kevin Williams said. “I was very proud of how she stepped up for us in Mexico this spring.”
As a senior Uwadia took on leadership role within the team, while also ceding playing time to the new Gamecocks to help build the team up for the future. When called upon, Uwadia stepped up to compete in four tournaments, notching her best performance of the season at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico back in February.
In the classroom Uwadia consistently delivered, earning WGCA All-American Scholar and SEC Academic Honor Roll distinction every year she was eligible. Uwadia graduated this spring and plans to pursue a career in professional golf when the Symetra Tour resumes.
