COLUMBIA, S.C. —- Following a 1-0 road victory at Mercer this past Friday, South Carolina men’s soccer’s Christian Kraus was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week while Sekou Soumah was selected to TopDrawer Soccer’s Team of the Week, it was announced today. Additionally, Nick Brady was a TopDrawer Soccer honorable mention. This marks Kraus and Brady’s first honor and Soumah’s second of the season through four matches.
In the victory over Mercer, Kraus’ goal off the Andrew Halloran and Spencer Mallion assist put the Gamecocks on top, 1-0, with 15 minutes left in the match as the Gamecocks went on to earn the hard-earned road win. The goal was Kraus’ first at Carolina.
“It was special to me because I’ve had a few chances in previous games to score.” Kraus said following the match. “I knew a goal was coming, it was just a matter of when. I’m also glad to get on the score sheet and be a part of a big win!”
Meanwhile, Brady shined between the posts with five saves to earn the win and clean sheet, four of which came in the second half.
“It felt really good to get a clean sheet tonight knowing how big this game was for us moving forward into our last game of the fall next weekend and the upcoming spring season,” Brady said after the victory. “It was a complete team effort from front to back and I’m proud of how everyone responded after the last two games. Also, a huge congrats to Christian on getting his first goal of his young career.”
