South Carolina T-7th After First Round of Jerry Pate National
Proveaux shoots 68 (-2) to pace Gamecocks Sunday in Alabama
VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — South Carolina opened play at its final fall tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Gamecocks are T-7th at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate after shooting 279 (-1) in round one.
Super senior Caleb Proveaux paced Carolina with a 68 (-2). He’s currently T-12th and had just one bogey the opening 18 holes. All-American Jamie Wilson joined Proveaux in red numbers with a 1-under round of 69. He’s sits just inside the top-20 at T-18th.
Junior Ryan Hall shot an even par score of 70 after tying for the team lead with five birdies. Sophomore Jack Wall was the final counting score with a 72 (+2). He was the only player in Garnet and Black to make an eagle on his scorecard.
True freshman Liam Shinn made his Gamecock debut on Sunday, opening his career with a 2-over 72. He also had five birdies like Hall, but was hurt by two double bogeys early on the front nine of the course.
South Carolina will be paired with Ole Miss and Arkansas in the second round on Monday at Old Overton Club. Shinn will lead things off for Carolina on hole one at 10 a.m. ET.
