Proveaux, Hall Power Carolina in Round Two of Jerry Pate National
Duo each shot 66 (-4) as Gamecocks moved into fifth place overall
VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — South Carolina moved into fifth at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Monday. The Gamecocks shot 274 (-6) as a team, powered by low rounds from super senior Caleb Proveaux and junior Ryan Hall. The duo each shot season-best rounds of 66 (-4).
Proveaux is T-6th at 6-under overall. He led the team with five birdies in round two and had just one bogey all day. The Lexington, S.C., native, is seeking is eighth career top-10 and second this season.
Hall also had just one bogey on his scorecard as he climbed the leaderboard to T-12th at 4-under for the tournament. He got off to a hot start today with two birdies and an eagle en route to a front nine 31 (-4). The Knoxville, Tenn., native, has finished in the top-20 in each of the team’s first two events this season.
Super senior Jamie Wilson and sophomore Jack Wall each shot 71 (+1) to round out the four counting scores for South Carolina in the second round. True freshman Liam Shinn shot 73 (+3).
South Carolina will be paired with Ole Miss and Arkansas in the second round on Monday at Old Overton Club. Shinn will lead things off for Carolina on hole one at 10 a.m. ET.
Vanderbilt moved into the lead today with an 8-under round of 272. The Commodores sit two shots clear of Georgia at 18-under overall. Missouri’s Rory Frannssen and Mississippi State’s Ford Clegg are tied for the individual lead at 11-under.
The Gamecocks will be paired with Tennessee and Mississippi State for the final round on Tuesday. Shinn will lead things off at hole one beginning at 9:50 a.m. ET. Proveaux will be the final player in Garnet and Black off in round three at 10:30 a.m. ET.
