Sloane Vogt Named SEC Reining Rider of the Fall
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina equestrian junior Sloane Vogt capped off a strong fall by earning the SEC Reining Rider of the Fall award, conference officials announced on Wednesday.
“We are so excited for Sloane to be recognized for all her hard work,” head coach Boo Major said of her rider. “As someone that competes in both horsemanship and reining, coach McGrath thought it best for Sloane to stick to one event for a while to avoid being stretched too thin. Sloane continues to participate in horsemanship practice, but we really wanted to concentrate with her in reining this year. That is where we feel we need her expertise the most and it has paid off. Sloane is a model student athlete and it is great to see someone with such discipline and high standards in all aspects of her college career be rewarded with this honor.”
The NCEA Reining Rider of the Month for November, Vogt continued to show her growth in reining in the three fall meets for the Gamecocks. After suffering a 75.5-74.5 loss against No. 1 Auburn in the season opener, Vogt started November with a 69.5-68.5 M.O.P. winning ride at No. 7 Texas A&M, her first M.O.P. win for reining and the second western M.O.P. of her career. She kept things rolling in the final meet of the fall, winning her matchup against No. 4 Georgia 70-69 to finish the fall slate with a 71.33 scoring average.
The Gamecocks finished the fall at No. 3 in the NCEA rankings. Information on the spring schedule will be announced when it’s available.
