Gamecocks Perfect in Singles to Wrap Up MLK Invite
ATLANTA – No. 20 South Carolina men’s tennis closed out the Georgia Tech MLK Invitational Tournament Monday with a sweep of all six singles matches and a pair of doubles wins. Over the three-day, round-robin tournament, the Gamecocks went 17-3 in singles and 5-6 in doubles action.
On Monday, South Carolina rested its top three singles entries, and the rest of the roster did not disappoint with Toby Samuel stretching his team-best singles win streak to six, dropping just two games to Georgia Southern’s Pascal Wagemaker. His fellow first-year freshman Carter Morgan notched is first collegiate victory in similar fashion, topping Jaap Aldering of Georgia Southern 6-1, 6-1.
Three other Gamecocks went 2-1 on the weekend thanks to wins Monday – Phillip Jordan, Thomas Brown and Jake Beasley. Beau Pelletier finished the tournament at 2-0 with wins on Sunday and Monday.
South Carolina is slated for its first dual match of the season as the Gamecocks travel to Charlotte for a 1 p.m. match on Fri., Jan. 22.
