Four Gamecocks Invited to Augusta National Women’s Amateur
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Four members of the South Carolina women’s golf team are set to compete in the 2021 Augusta National Women’s Amateur at the historic Augusta National Golf Club from March 31-April 3.
Sophomore Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, the No. 4 ranked golfer in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, will be joined by seniors Ana Pelaez & Pimnipa Panthong, and freshman Paula Kirner, when the tournament gets underway on March 31.
Roussin-Bouchard, Panthong and Kirner all received invites for the 2020 event that carried over to 2021 after last year’s event was canceled due to the pandemic. Pelaez earned her spot in the tournament thanks to her blistering fall in Europe that has her at the No. 27 ranking in the WAGR as she returns to Columbia for her final semester with the Gamecocks.
The first 36 holes of the tournament will be contested over two days on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., March 31 and April 1, 2021. The entire field will then play Augusta National for an official practice round Friday, April 2. The final round will take place at Augusta National on Saturday, April 3 and will feature the top 30 competitors who made the cut.
South Carolina finished the fall season with the No. 1 spot in the Golfweek rankings, and the No. 2 spot in the Golfstat rankings. The Gamecocks get their spring started at the Moon Golf Invitational on Feb. 14.
