Hall Takes Third at Gators Invitational With Final Round 65
Junior shot 200 (-10) en route to his first top-five of the 2020-21 season
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Junior Ryan Hall played lights out golf at the Gators Invitational en route to taking third on Saturday. The Knoxville, Tenn. native, shot a final round 65 (-5) and finished with a 54-hole score of 200 (-10), just one shot behind co-medalists Trent Phillips (Georgia) and Andrew Kozan (Auburn).
Hall notched his first top-five of the 2020-21 season (fourth career) this week at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on UF’s campus. He’s now finished in the top-20 in all of his starts this season. The three-year starter and 2019 PING All-Southeast Region selection had 14 birdies, finishing T-2nd in the field in par-3 scoring average (2.87, -2) and T-6th in the field in par-5 scoring average (4.33, -6).
Outside of Hall, the No. 12 Gamecocks had a tough go of it in the team’s first outing on the spring schedule. After a solid start in the first round with an opening 276 (-4), South Carolina finished T-16th with a final 54-hole tally of 847 (+7). The Gamecocks shot 290 (+10) in round two and 281 (+1) in round three.
All-American Jamie Wilson T-57th at 1-under for the tournament. He finished with 69 (-1) in the final round today. Wilson made six birdies but was hurt by a pair of double bogeys on his card. He led the team this week with 15 birdies, tied for the fourth-most in the field.
Sophomore Jack Wall T-88th at 5-over. Super senior Caleb Proveaux finished 115th at 13-over. Senior Jack Parrott, the final scoring man in the lineup, T-118th at 16-over. Senior Andrew Spiegler made his debut this week playing as an individual. He finished T-108th at 11-over, finishing with an even par 70 today.
The tournament, which was supposed to finish on Sunday, wrapped up a day early due to impending inclement weather forecasted. Team’s played 30 holes on Friday, finishing the second round late this morning while rolling right into the final 18 holes this afternoon.
No. 15 Florida, the host school at the Mark Bostick Golf Course, won the tournament by five shots over No. 3 Georgia. The Gators shot a tournament-best score of 265 (-15) in the final round to finish with a 54-hole tally of 811 (-29).
The Gamecocks are off next weekend and will return to play the following week at the LSU Invitational (Feb 26-28) in Baton Rouge.
