Gamecocks Earn 5-2 Road Win at Ole Miss

OXFORD, MISS. – No. 14 South Carolina men’s tennis topped No. 19 Ole Miss on the road in a 5-2 decision Sunday afternoon. After losing the doubles point, the Gamecocks pushed back in singles to secure the win with Phillip Jordan clinching the team victory.

In singles, the Gamecocks settled in early and held that momentum for the rest of the match. In the No. 4 spot, true freshman Toby Samuel made quick work of his match with 6-1 wins in both sets to level the match a 1-1. Not far behind was Jake Beasley, who also won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, to give the Gamecocks the 2-1 lead over the Rebels.

Ole Miss closed in 2-2, but could not stop South Carolina in the rest of the lineup. No. 32 Daniel Rodrigues created an early lead in his first set over Finn Reynolds of Ole Miss to win 6-3. In the second set, Rodrigues was down 2-3 but bounced back to win the next four games and bring the Gamecocks one point closer to the win.

At the bottom of the lineup, Jordan had an early 0-2 deficit in his first set against Lukas Engelhardt of Ole Miss. The sophomore battled back and only gave up two more games to win the set 6-4. Tied 4-4 in the second set, Jordan won the next two games to deliver the win for South Carolina.

Play continued in the No. 3 spot, where No. 81 Raphael Lambling faced Nikola Slavic of Ole Miss. Lambling took the first set 6-3, but dropped the second in the tiebreak 6-7 (4). The match went into a super tiebreak for the third set, which Lambling dominated 1-0 (3) for the win.

The Gamecocks return home to host a pair of ACC opponents this weekend as No. 15 NC State visits on Friday at 1 p.m. and No. 1 North Carolina coming to Carolina Tennis Center for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday
