A Perfect Weekend for the Smith Sisters Highlight Final Day of Road Tournament

The duo spearheaded the team's 4-1 weekend record with five wins

BATON ROUGE, LA. – Gamecock beach volleyball (13-4, 5-3 CCSA) finished their weekend at the LSU Beach Invitational with two wins on Sunday. The team defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist by 4-1 scores. Katie and Jordan Smith finished their weekend at the number two position with a perfect 5-0 record.

In the morning opener, the team closed down the team win with quick sweeps at flights one, two and five. Skylar Allen and Alyssa Keller clinched the deciding point with a 23-21, 21-15 sweep on the top court, and after the Islanders earned their lone point with a three-set win in the fours, Madison Brabham and Abby Carroll came back for a three-set win of their own at number three to cap the 4-1 final.

The weekend finale featured one slight change to the lineup, but it was business as usual for the team. Avery Davis moved into the number five position with Carly Schnieder, but the new pair ended up as the first court to finish and the pair swept their match 21-13, 21-12. The Smith sisters followed close behind with a 21-14, 21-15 sweep at number two and Jess Vastine and Hannah Mackenhausen scored the clinching point with a 21-14, 21-19 win in the fourth position.

UP NEXT
A pivotal weekend lies ahead for the team as it returns home for the Gamecock Grand Slam March 27-28. The field will likely feature a five-team field in which every participant is ranked nationally. The Gamecocks face TCU and Stetson on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, and Florida State and Georgia State at 11 and 5.

Home tournaments will have a reduced seating capacity that does not allow for general admission this spring. Attendance will be limited to players, staff and family for South Carolina and visiting teams.
