Roussin-Bouchard Ties for Third at Augusta National Women’s Amateur

AUGUSTA, Ga.  –  South Carolina women’s golf sophomore Pauline Roussin-Bouchard continued her upward climb, finishing in a tie for third at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Senior Ana Pelaez moved up the leaderboard as well, finish 12th as play concluded at Augusta National Golf Club on Saturday.

Roussin-Bouchard put on a show for her final round, sinking a ANWA record seven birdies for the final round. The sophomore showed her aggressive side in getting the birdies, but also dealt with five bogeys on the day, finishing with a 2-under 70 for the round, and wrapping the tournament at 2-over, tied for third place.

“We played the right areas on the greens,” Roussin-Bouchard said after finishing her round. “I don’t recall missing a lot of greens today. The few I missed, I chipped. I had some good chips. Overall, it’s a very, very good day. It’s not every day that you can play under par at Augusta National, so I’m satisfied with today.”

Pelaez bounced back after a rough second round to notch birdies on holes three and five, finishing her front nine at 1-under. After a bogey on 12 brought her back to even the senior locked in, sinking a birdie on 15 and finishing the day at 1-under 71, and the tournament at 5-over for 12th place.

“I was extremely nervous on hole No. 1 but I told myself while I was warming up go out and enjoy every single feeling, the pressure, the nerves, just the magic of being here,” Pelaez said after the round. “I think I had a pretty good start, which gave me some momentum and then I had a three-putt on No. 9 which kind of let me a little bit down but my caddie was like, you know, keep going, you’re playing great. So it was just amazing.”

The four Augusta National Women’s Amateur participants return to Columbia to prepare for the postseason that begins with the SEC Championship on April 14.
