Go and Claisse to Play in Cavalier Match Play Tournament

COLUMBIA, S.C.  –  Two members of the No. 1 University of South Carolina women’s golf team will represent the Garnet and Black at Virginia’s Cavalier Match Play Tournament on April 6-7 when senior Lois Kaye Go and sophomore Mathilde Claisse arrive at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Va. 

The Field

Go and Claisse will compete in a field of eight in the individual bracket, seeded by each woman’s Golfstat ranking. Go enters the weekend as the No. 3 seed, while Claisse holds the No. 5 seed. Go faces No. 7-seeded Vanessa Knecht from Wake Forest in her opening match, and Claisse is set to face No. 4 seed Mimi Rhodes, also from Wake Forest, to open the event. 

The Course

Birdwood Golf Course plays as a par-71 at 6,118 yards. 

Last Time Out for Carolina

South Carolina took its fourth tournament title of the season, a program record, with a win at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. Senior Ana Pelaez notched her second consecutive runner-up finish, posting a 2-under 214 for the weekend. Sophomore Pauline Roussin-Bouchard tied for third with a 2-over 218, making a charge in the final round with a 2-under 70 to close the event. 

Cavalier Match Play Lineup

Lois Kaye Go (Sr.)

  • Named SEC Golfer of the Week on March 10
  • Notched her best finish as a Gamecock by taking second at the Gamecock Intercollegiate with a 4-under 212 after carding back-to-back 3-under 69 scores in the first two rounds
  • Holds second lowest career scoring average in program history (72.69)
  • Helped the Gamecocks secure the win at the Moon Golf Invitational with a 2-under 70 in the first round and an even par 72 in the final round
  • Earned All-America honors each of the last three seasons


Mathilde Claisse (So.) 

  • Bounced back after a rough opening round at the Moon Golf Invitational to shoot a 2-under 70 in the second round and a 1-under 71 in the final round to help clinch the victory
  • Won both of her match play matchups at the East Lake Cup
  • Played in every tournament for the Gamecocks as a freshman in 2019-20
  • Notched the fifth-lowest freshman scoring average in program history (73.88)
