Kate Bonham Named to SEC Equestrian Community Service Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina equestrian senior Kate Bonham has been named to the 2021 SEC Equestrian Community Service team, SEC officials announced Wednesday.
“Kate has put in so much effort with this team both in and out of the arena,” head coach Boo Major said of her senior. “She is a quiet leader that leads by example and is well respected amongst her teammates. I can’t say enough good things about Kate and know she will be successful in any direction she chooses to go after graduation.”
“We are so honored to have so many student-athletes on the All-SEC list,” head coach Boo Major said. “It has been an extremely difficult year for our team on many levels so to see our student-athletes excel in this capacity is very rewarding. Hats off to this group of dedicated young women and to Coach Terebesi and Coach McGrath for assisting in leading them down this winning path. Honestly, hats off to our entire team for their efforts.”
Bonham has set the example for community service involvement for the Gamecocks, leading the team in community service hours as a junior and senior, amassing over 100 hours during the last two seasons even while dealing with a pandemic.
Leading the way for the community service efforts, Bonham has participated in events and efforts with Families Helping Families, Meals on Wheels, Children’s Hospital Holiday Card drive, PRISMA COVID vaccination sites, and numerous other efforts in the Columbia community.
In addition to those direct hands-on efforts, Bonham participated in South Carolina’s NCAA Inclusion roundtable discussion in the fall to discuss the issues of race and inequality faced by student-athletes. She’s also been a member of the South Carolina Student Athlete Advisory Committee for all four years of her time in Columbia.
Bonham has earned NCEA and SEC Academic Honor Roll distinction every year she’s been eligible, and she’s set to graduate with a 4.0 GPA this spring.
