Beach Volleyball Drops Evening Dual to No. 3 Florida State
The Gamecocks take on College of Charleston in the consolation bracket tomorrow at 11 AM ET
HUNTSVILLE, ALA. – Inclement weather in the Saturday forecast forced a change in schedule for South Carolina at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association postseason tournament, pushing up the Gamecocks’ second-round dual with No. 3 Florida State (31-4) from Saturday morning to Friday night. The top-seeded Seminoles defeated South Carolina, 4-1, with Katie Smith and Skylar Allen providing the team’s lone victory.
After losing the opening set on all five courts, the Gamecocks (22-8) battled hard in the second but came up just short. The Seminoles earned deuce-score wins of 21-19 at number three, 25-23 at number four and 25-23 at number five that sealed sweeps and clinched the overall team score. Allen and Smith fought back from a 21-16 loss in the opening set to win 21-16 and 15-9 in the next two for the team point. For Smith, it gives her the outright program record for career dual wins (with 94), after setting the program’s overall win record in the morning win over Tulane.
