Trio of Gamecocks Named to All-Southeast Region Teams
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer had three named to the All-Southeast Region Team by the United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced Tuesday. Now graduate Anna Patten, senior Lauren Chang and junior Jyllissa Harris all were named for their performances during the 2020-21 season that stretched from September of 2020 to May of 2021.
For Patten, the honor goes down as the second of her collegiate career with the Gamecocks and its the first time she has been named to the first team. The now professional with Arsenal in the Women’s Super League in England was a second team honoree in 2019 in her first season with the Garnet and Black. Patten was a leader for the Carolina defense all fall before leaving after graduation, she contributed to 19 clean sheets in her season and a half with the Gamecocks.
After dominating the SEC midfield during the fall portion of the season, Harris made the transition to the back line for the spring portion of the Gamecocks’ season and earned a second team all-region nod for her talents. As a defender Harris scored three goals to add to her one goal in the fall while playing in the midfield. Harris helped the Gamecocks post three-straight clean sheets to begin the spring portion of the season and was one of the major factors in Carolina reaching the NCAA Tournament for the eighth-straight season in 2021.
Chang’s appearance on the All-Region squad was once again no surprise, the senior midfielder has been honored by the organization three times in her career with this year’s honor being a third team nod. She’s the active leader in goals for Carolina with 17 in her career along with a team-leading 14 assists and 46 points. This season Chang led the team with five assists and a pair of goals to finish fourth on the team in total points with nine during the shortened season.
