Gamecocks Tee It Up Monday at Albuquerque Regional

Carolina goes off at 10:25 a.m. ET alongside Boise State and Oregon State

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — South Carolina opens play at the Albuquerque Regional on Monday morning. The Gamecocks are seeded ninth in a field that features six top-30 teams, including the No. 1 overall seed Oklahoma.

Carolina will be paired with Oregon State and Boise State for the opening round at The Championship Course at UNM.

“Beautiful golf course and totally different for us playing at altitude almost a mile high here,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “The guys are handling it really well, and they looked good today. The golf course is tricky – greens with a lot of slope and very quick. Some of the holes are getable, and some of them you just have to take your medicine and play smart. It’s going to be a good challenge for us this week and we’re looking forward to it.”

The top-five teams after 54 holes of stroke play will advance to the 2021 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club (May 28-June 2) hosted by Arizona State. Thirty teams total at the six regional sites across the country will advance as well as the top finishing individuals on non-advancing teams.

This week, the Gamecocks are making their 13th NCAA Regional appearance (28th all-time) under McDonald since 2007. The team is seeking the program’s 22nd all-time appearance at the national championship and eighth under McDonald.

Carolina will be toting out the same lineup as the SEC Championship with First Team All-SEC selection and U.S. Arnold Palmer Cup team member Ryan Hall in the number one spot. Super seniors Jamie Wilson and Caleb Proveaux are in the two and three lineup positions with sophomore Jack Wall and senior Jack Parrott rounding out the team’s scoring five in Albuquerque. Sophomore Nick Mayfield is also with the team as the sixth-man substitute.

Hall and Proveaux were both starters on the Gamecock’s team that advanced to the NCAA Championship in 2019 out of the Pullman Regional in a sudden-death playoff with Colorado State. Wilson played in the 2017 West Lafayette Regional as a freshman. Wall and Parrott will be making their NCAA postseason debuts this week.

Parrott will lead things off for Carolina at 10:25 a.m. ET on hole one tomorrow. Live scoring will be available through Golfstat.
