Gamecocks T-4th, Hall T-2nd After 36 Holes in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — South Carolina posted another solid round on day two of the Albuquerque Regional, shooting 285 (-5) to move into a tie for fourth place with No. 14 Texas A&M at 8-under for the tournament.
 
Junior standout Ryan Hall paced the Gamecocks yet again with another 4-under 68, which has him T-2^nd just one shot back of the individual lead held by Oregon State’s Spencer Tibbits at 9-under. Hall got off to a hot start with a 5-under 31 on his front nine that featured a pair of eagles on both par-5s. He rammed home a 60-foot putt for a three at the par-5 14^th hole. The Knoxville, Tenn., native nearly made his third eagle of the round at the par-5 first but rolled his chip just over the left edge. He would tap it in for another birdie to get to 6-under.
 
Hall leads the field through 36 holes in par-3 scoring average (-4, 2.50) and ranks second in par-5 scoring average (-7, 4.13).
 
South Carolina began the day on the backside at hole 10. Conditions were calm for the front nine today, but worsened on the back with cool temperatures, strong winds and stretches of light rain. 
 
Senior Jack Parrott stepped up in a big way for the Gamecocks, posting a 2-under 70 to move into the top-40 on the individual leaderboard. The local product from AC Flora closed with two birdies at holes eight and nine. Parrott’s red number at eight was one of only two all day in the 75-man field at The Championship Course at UNM.
 
“It was another good round for the team and particularly for Ryan,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “Jack came through strong at the end with a couple of birdies and Caleb (Proveaux) made a clutch eagle on the last hole. These guys keep fighting and we’ve had some stretches of indifferent golf at times. The team is in good position going into the final round and we need all five to bring their best for us to advance.”
 
Super seniors Jamie Wilson and Caleb Proveaux were the final counting scores for Carolina. Wilson was solid with an even par 72. The Mount Pleasant, S.C., native got off to a tough start and was 3-over through four holes. He rallied and was bogey free the rest of the way with a trio of birdies. Proveaux had an up-and-down round and finished with a 1-over 73. He closed with an eagle at the par-5 ninth, one of just three all second round at the final hole on the front nine. 
 
Sophomore Jack Wall shot 75 (+3) with three birdies. He played solid but couldn’t get a putt to drop and was hurt by a triple bogey at the par-3 16^th hole.
 
It’s a bunched leaderboard with just five shots separating teams four through nine. The Gamecocks will again be off early at 10 a.m. ET on hole 10, playing alongside A&M and host New Mexico. The top-five teams at the conclusion of tomorrow’s round will advance to the 2021 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship (May 28-June 2) next week a Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
