Roussin-Bouchard, Pelaez, Anderson Tabbed for WGCA Watch Lists
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women’s golf team continues to garner national attention with two women on the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Player of the Year watch list in sophomore Pauline Roussin-Bouchard and senior Ana Pelaez, while head coach Kalen Anderson made the WGCA Coach of the Year watch list, WGCA officials announced on Tuesday.
The 2021 SEC Player of the Year, Roussin-Bouchard is winding down the best season for a golfer in Gamecock history. Roussin-Bouchard won four tournaments during the season, including the 2021 SEC Championship, carding a SEC Championship and South Carolina program record score of 17-under (199). All four of the sophomore’s wins this season account for the four lowest 54-hole scores in program history, and her 70.44 scoring average is the lowest single-season total in team history.
Pelaez caught fire when she rejoined the team this spring after travel issues kept her away in the fall, tying for third in her season debut at the Moon Golf Invitational. The senior followed that performance by tying for sixth at the Gamecock Intercollegiate, and then tying for second at the Valspar Augusta Invitational with a career low 10-under (206). Pelaez wrapped up the regular season with a runner-up finish at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, and tied for tenth at the SEC Championship, securing her All-SEC First Team selection, the third All-SEC honor of her career.
Both women made the final ANNIKA Award Watch List as well.
Anderson, the 2021 SEC Coach of the Year, led the Gamecocks to a program record four tournament wins, the highest total in the SEC and tied for best in the nation. The team holds a 286.36 scoring average, the lowest in program history.
The Gamecocks next head to Arizona for the NCAA Championship, set for May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
