COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina midfielders Jyllissa Harris and Lauren Chang have earned spots on the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region Teams, the coaching organization announced Thursday. Both Harris and Chang were named to the Second Team.
Harris boasts a 3.970 GPA in Early Childhood Education and was a huge part in the Gamecocks’ success this season. Harris scored four goals, three while playing as a defender, and added two assists to finish tied for second on the team with 10 points. She aided the Carolina defense to a goals against average of 0.87 this season while also contributing to the second best scoring offense in the SEC this season. Harris was also named to the All-SEC First Team for the first time in her career in the fall.
Chang, who holds a 3.833 GPA while she is earning a graduate degree in Business Administration, was a captain for Carolina this season and started all 16 matches in the midfield. Chang finished the season with a team-high five assists and a total of nine points, fourth-best on the team. She scored twice, including a goal against Missouri to help the Gamecocks advance to the SEC Tournament semifinals. Earlier in the 2020-21 season, Chang also earned All-SEC Second Team honors for the third time in her career.
Both Harris and Chang will return to the Gamecocks this fall. South Carolina finished the 2020-21 season in the NCAA Tournament Second Round after defeating Montana in the opening round. The Gamecocks finished the season with an 11-5-0 record and a 6-2-0 record in the SEC.
