Chang Named Academic All-American
First Gamecock since 2016
AUSTIN, Texas —- South Carolina women’s soccer’s Lauren Chang was named a 2021 Academic All-American, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the national organization announced Monday. Selected to the second team, Chang is the first Gamecock to earn the distinction since 2016 and is the 13th in program history.
Chang, who is now pursuing a graduate degree in Business Administration in the Darla Moore School of Business, boasts an outstanding cumulative GPA of 3.833.
A native of Alpharetta, Ga., the latest honor adds to her long list of accomplishments in her career. She was named to the All-SEC Second Team for the third time in her career this year after leading the team with five assists and adding a pair of goals during the shortened season. She was a captain for Carolina this season and started all 16 matches in the midfield.
On top of this academic honor, Chang was also named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region teams in May.
Chang will return to the Gamecocks this fall for a fifth year of eligibility.
South Carolina finished the 2020-21 season in the NCAA Tournament Second Round after defeating Montana in the opening round. The Gamecocks finished the season with an 11-5-0 record and a 6-2-0 record in the SEC.
