Gamecocks Secure Five Wins on Day 1 of Gator Fall Invite

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis saw its first action of the season Friday morning at the Gator Fall Invite in Gainesville, Fla. The Gamecocks took on the NC State Wolfpack, picking up five wins on the day.
 
Day two of the tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and will continue through Sunday.
 
Gamecock Notables

  • Junior Raphael Lambling led the day, winning both his singles and doubles outings. Facing Damien Salvestre in singles, Lambling, ranked No. 39 in the country, gave up just three games in his straight-set win.
  • Sophomore newcomer James Story took home his first victory as a Gamecock, pairing with program veteran Lambling to secure an 8-4 victory in doubles.
  • Connor Thomson opened his sophomore campaign with a tough straight-set win over Martins Rocens. After winning the first set 6-4, Thomson collected a late service break to close out the last set 7-5.
  • After going 5-5 last fall, junior Beau Pelletier opened this season with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Joseph Schrader.
  • Last year’s record-setting doubles tandem Toby Samuel and Jake Beasley, opened up the season with an 8-4 win over Collin Shick and Damien Salvestre.
