Gamecocks, Darling Jump Out to Lead at ANNIKA Intercollegiate

Team has seven shot lead fueled by true freshman's bogey free 66 (-6)

LAKE ELMO, Minn. — South Carolina is off to a hot start at the 2021 ANNIKA Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks shot 278 (-10) in round one to grab a seven-shot lead over Duke. Highly-touted true freshman Hannah Darling is in the individual lead by a shot after firing a bogey free 66 (-6) to begin her college career.

Darling made the turn at 4-under, carding three-straight birdies on holes five through seven. The Midlothian, Scotland, native shot 2-under on the back, closing with a birdie at the par-5 18^th hole.

Redshirt senior transfer Tai Anudit, who joins the Gamecocks after a two-year stint at Kennesaw State, also impressed in her debut with a 68 (-4). She had five birdies posting 2-under 34s on the front and back nine. Anudit is currently tied for third.

Junior transfer Justine Fournand also posted a red number in her South Carolina debut with a 1-under 71. She also made five birdies on the day and sits just inside the top-20.

Junior Mathilde Claisse is T-25^th at 1-over after shooting a first round 73. She was bogey free on the back nine finishing with nine consecutive pars. True freshman Louise Rydqvist also had a solid debut with a 73 (+1). She made four birdies and was hurt only by a triple-bogey seven at the par-4 eighth hole. The Jönköping, Sweden, native rallied and shot 1-under coming in the final 10 holes.

The Gamecocks will be paired with the Blue Devils and Wake Forest for round two on Tuesday. Rydqvist will lead things off for South Carolina on hole one at 9:50 a.m. (ET). Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
