Women's Hoops NWT Starts with Oct. 1 Scrimmage and Theme Reveal

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball invites fans to an open scrimmage on Fri., Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Colonial Life Arena. The NWT event will include the 2021-22 theme reveal, the debut of a giveaway with the theme logo and other fan interactions along with a 15-minute Garnet & Black scrimmage and a 15-minute scrimmage against the Gamecocks’ practice players.
Head coach Dawn Staley has requested that fans bring a gift card to be donated to two organizations – Pokey Chapman Foundation and We Made Foundation – that are helping Louisiana residents recover from the effects of recent storms that have impacted that state. Staley and the women’s basketball program has invested in those foundations and hopes that the FAMS will contribute in the form of gift cards for gas stations or stores such as Target or Walmart to help the hardest hit residents with the essentials for recovery.
Doors at the main entrance of Colonial Life Arena will open at 6 p.m. for 2021-22 G-Hive members and 6:15 p.m. for the general public. All seating will be general admission. The box office will be open throughout the event for fans who would like to purchase season tickets and/or a G-Hive membership for the season.
The event will start with team introductions and the reveal of the team’s 2021-22 theme and the distribution of the first theme-based rally towels for each fan in attendance. Staley will not coach either team in the scrimmages but will be mic’d up for commentary throughout both contests. Other fan interactions and contests will take place during both scrimmages.
Fans can help pick how the roster is divided for the Garnet & Black scrimmage by submitting their team choice here by noon Tuesday. The top roster selections will then go to a Twitter poll Wednesday and Thursday for the final rosters.
