Women's Soccer Earns United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – South Carolina women’s soccer has been honored with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 academic year. The Gamecocks 3.80 combined GPA was the eighth highest among all 382 women’s programs honored, the highest among the 14 SEC programs, and the second highest among all NCAA Division I programs.

College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2020-21 academic year. A total of 602 soccer teams (220 men, 382 women) across all collegiate levels earned the Team Academic Award. South Carolina was one of 90 schools who had both their men’s and women’s programs recognized.

Shelley Smith’s team has taken the honor now 19 times in program history, tied for the most by any SEC program. The team has earned the honor each of the last 14 seasons.

The Gamecocks return to action Sunday, September 26, when they travel to Kentucky for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
