Story Leads Gamecocks on Second Day of Tournament
Athens, GA – Sophomore James Story led Gamecock men’s tennis to four wins on the second day of the Bulldog Invitational. Story picked up two singles wins and paired with Jake Beasley for a win in doubles.
Story, No. 56, competed against Bojan Jankulovski of Miami in the quarterfinals of his draw. He took the match in straight sets with scores of 7-5 and 6-4.
Story then took down Erik Grevelius of Georgia in the semi-final round of his draw. Story had to fight from behind after dropping the first set in a close tiebreak with a score of 6-7 (3). Story then went on to shut Grevelius out in the second set before battling the third set to a final score of 7-5 to take the match.
Beasley paired up with Story to pick up a win in the consolation doubles match of their draw. The duo battled Angel Guerrero and Pablo Schelcher of Georgia Tech, beating them with a score of 8-5.
On his own in singles, Beasley picked up a win against Schelcher, taking the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 6-7 (2) and bouncing back to take the third in a late service break with a score of 7-5.
The final day of the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday in Athens.
