Gamecocks Fall to 18th-Ranked Panthers
Peter Clement scored on a penalty kick for Carolina's only goal
COLUMBIA—The South Carolina men’s soccer team dropped its match with No. 18 FIU on Saturday morning, 4-1, at Stone Stadium.
“I’m just disappointed, really,” said head coach Tony Annan. “I’m disappointed in the way we approached the game. They’re a very good team.”
Peter Clement was the only Gamecock to score. He scored on a penalty kick in the 26th minute of play. The first penalty kick of the season for Carolina (5-7-1, 1-3-1 C-USA) was set up when Andrew Halloran drew a foul inside the box.
From then on, the No. 18 Panthers (8-1-2, 3-0-1 C-USA) scored four unanswered. They scored two goals within 50 seconds of each other in the 33rd and 34th minutes to take a 2-1 lead.
After the half, Rasmus Tobinski (49th minute) and Stephen Afrifa (66th minute) scored to give FIU a 4-1 advantage.
Ryan Bilichuk started in goal for Carolina. He faced 12 shots on goal and earned seven saves.
Harrison Myring put a pair of shots on goal for the Gamecocks while Clement and Logan Frost put one shot on goal each.
The Gamecocks return to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 against No. 6 Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.
