Thomson Falls Short at ITA Regionals

Cary, N.C. – South Carolina sophomore Connor Thomson‘s run at the ITA Carolina Regional has concluded in the semifinal round. No. 16 Thomson dropped his match to No. 120 Andrew Zhang of Duke 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
 
Thomson got off to a rocky start at the beginning of the match where he was trailing 1-5 in the first set when rain forced the match to be delayed. Upon return to competition, Thomson dropped the first set 2-6.  He fought back to take the second set 7-5 before being bested in the final set 6-4.
 
Prior to the semifinal match, Thomson had worked through five opponents in the tournament, only dropping two sets on his way to the semifinal round.
 
The Gamecocks will be back in action next at the Gamecock Scramble Oct. 29-31 at Carolina Tennis Center.
