No. 6 Gamecocks, Fournand Roll to Victory at Landfall Tradition

Junior transfer from FAU finished birdie, birdie, eagle to win by three shots Sunday

WILMINGTON, N.C. — No. 6 South Carolina ran away with its second win of the season on Halloween Sunday at the Landfall Tradition. The Gamecocks shot another field best score today with a final round 280 (-8) to win by 12 shots over No. 15 Michigan.

Junior Justine Fournand won the individual title by three shots with a final round 68 (-4). She trailed by two with three holes remaining and closed with a lights out birdie, birdie, eagle finish. The FAU transfer shot 208 (-8) over 54-holes with 14 birdies while leading the field in par-3 scoring average (-4, 2.67). It marks her fifth collegiate win and first in Garnet and Black.

“I’m very proud to put an exclamation point on our fall season with a team and individual victory,” said head coach Kalen Anderson “We have progressed significantly throughout the fall, and I remain excited for the continued growth that we will make in the offseason. The positive energy and talent of this group dominated this week, and it was rewarding to see their efforts pay off.”

Freshman Hannah Darling also shot 68 (-4) in the final round to creep into the top-five on the individual leaderboard. She had a hot finish like Fournand with three-straight birdies. The highly-touted Darling T-4th at 3-under for the tournament, her second top-five and third top-10 in four fall starts.

Fellow freshman Louise Rydqvist continued her strong play with a final round 71 (-1). She T-4th alongside Darling at 3-under overall. It marks her first career top-five finish.

Junior Mathilde Claisse was the fourth counting score with a final round 73 (+1). Redshirt senior transfer Tai Anudit shot 74 (+2) today and finished T-18th at 1-over for the tournament.

Today’s win marks the 19th for Anderson at South Carolina. It’s the team’s second victory already this season and sixth in the last two seasons.

The Gamecocks, who have played in the Landfall Tradition every year since 2010, have now won the tournament three times.

Carolina led the field with 62 birdies this week, 13 more red numbers than the next closest team. The Gamecocks also led the field in par-3 scoring average (-3, 2.95) and par-5 scoring average (-13, 4.78).
