Gamecocks Take Second at Daniel Island Intercollegiate

Ryan Hall (6th) and Jack Wall (T-10th) both notched top-10 finishes for the Gamecocks

CHARLESTON, S.C. — South Carolina finished second in the team’s fall finale at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate on Monday. The Gamecocks shot 291 (+3) in the final round posting a 54-hole team total of 862 (-2), four shots behind winner Seton Hall at 858 (-6).

Senior All-American Ryan Hall paced Carolina with a sixth place finish at 2-under, his first top-10 of the 2021-22 season. The Knoxville, Tenn., native has 20 top-20 finishes in 28 career starts. Today marks his 10th career top-10 finish.

Junior Jack Wall T-10th at even par for his second-straight top-10 finish. He’s now finished in the top-20 in all three stroke play events this fall. The Brielle, N.J., native now has three top-10s and six top-20s in 17 career starts.

“We stumbled a bit coming down the stretch, but I’m proud of the team for giving us another opportunity to win,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “Our freshmen are getting great experience, and it was good to see Ryan and Jack playing well. The golf course was a stern test and our guys were really close to putting it all together. We have a lot to work on in the offseason to be elite but I’m excited about what I’ve seen from the team this fall season.”

The freshmen duo in the lineup this week of Gene Zeigler and Nathan Franks finished T-25th at 1-over. They were both counting scores today with 1-over rounds of 73.

Senior transfer Evans Lewis T-33rd at 5-over. He shot even par in the final round today at Daniel Island Club’s Ralston Creek Course. Sophomore Nick Mayfield played as an individual this week and finished T-33rd alongside Lewis. He also shot even par in round three. The Rock Hill, S.C., native was making his season debut this week.

The Gamecocks will now move into the winter offseason prepping for the team’s six-event spring slate. Carolina will open the spring making the program’s tournament debut at the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 13-15).
