Hammerschmidt Named NCEA Flat Rider of the Month

COLUMBIA, S.C. – With an undefeated October on the flat and two Most Outstanding Performer honors under her belt, senior Trinity Hammerschmidt has been named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Flat Rider of the Month, the NCEA announced Wednesday.

“Trinity has been a solid performer on the flat for us for the past two years,” said head coach Boo Major. “She has the ability to adapt to almost any horse and has consistently gotten better throughout her career here as a Gamecock. She is most deserving of this recognition.”

Hammerschmidt went 4-0-0 in the month of October and scored a high of 85 in the home meet against then-No. 5 Texas A&M. Her performance in that meet earned the top score on the flat for South Carolina.

She was awarded her first M.O.P. honor of the season in the meet against then-No. 6 TCU in which she scored an 84.5. The Montpelier, Va. native brought in her second M.O.P. honor of the season in the meet at then-No. 1 Auburn by scoring a 79.5 and earning the lone point for the Gamecocks on the flat that meet.

Hammerschmidt is now the second Gamecock in a row to win Rider of the Month honors on the flat after senior Caroline Bald earned the honors in September.

South Carolina will close out its fall competition with a meet at No. 5 Georgia. The Gamecocks and the Bulldogs will go head-to-head on Saturday, November 13 at 2 p.m.
