Men’s Tennis Announces 2022 Spring Schedule

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis head coach Josh Goffi announced his team’s Spring 2022 schedule that includes 23 dual matches and hosting the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

“We are really looking forward to the spring schedule we’ve put together,” said Goffi. “The SEC as a whole got better from last year and we’ve added a lot of great teams to our non-conference slate at the start of the year. It’ll be challenging, but it’s going to give our team the chance to realize some bigger goals that we’ve had.”

The Gamecocks begin the season with a long stint of non-conference matches at home. They start the season with back-to-back doubleheaders versus Presbyterian and The Citadel on Friday, Jan. 21, and Charlotte and College of Charleston on Sunday, Jan. 23.

The following weekend, Carolina will host LSU, Duke, and Liberty for ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Gamecocks will face off against the LSU Tigers on Saturday and will take on either Duke or Liberty on Sunday. The winner of the weekend will advance to ITA National Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash., Feb. 18-21.

The team will then host rival Clemson in a Friday evening matchup on Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. They will go on to host Georgia Tech (Feb. 6) and Wake Forest (Feb. 10) before facing its first road challenge at North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Following the National Indoor Championships, the team will face off against NC State in Raleigh before beginning its 12-match SEC schedule.

The Gamecocks start conference play with a trip to the home of the reigning National Champion Florida (Mar. 4). They then return home to host LSU (Mar. 6). Carolina will head back on the road to the home of the highly ranked Tennessee Volunteers (Mar. 11) and will make a stop in Athens, Ga. to take on the Bulldogs (Mar. 13).

Back home, the team will host Mississippi State (Mar. 18) and Ole Miss (Mar. 20) before making a road trip to Fayetteville, Ark., to play the Razorbacks (Mar. 27). They will then host Vanderbilt (April 1) and Kentucky (April 3) before heading to Alabama to play the Auburn Tigers (April 8) and the Crimson Tide (April 10). Carolina will conclude its regular season with a home battle against Texas A&M (April 15).

The SEC Tournament will begin on April 20 and run through April 24. It will held in Athens, Ga., at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The Gamecocks were 17-10 in the 2021 regular season and advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. They finished the season with a final ranking of No. 13, the highest team ranking in program history.
