Eight Carolina Equestrian Riders Earn SEC Honors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Eight South Carolina equestrian riders claimed Southeastern Conference honors as the SEC announced its All-SEC awards on Wednesday. Four Gamecocks earned All-SEC distinction, while five, including an All-SEC winner, snagged All-Freshman honors.
“We are so honored to have so many student-athletes on the All-SEC list,” head coach Boo Major said. “It has been an extremely difficult year for our team on many levels so to see our student-athletes excel in this capacity is very rewarding. Hats off to this group of dedicated young women and to Coach Terebesi and Coach McGrath for assisting in leading them down this winning path. Honestly, hats off to our entire team for their efforts.”
Leading the way for the All-SEC honors is junior Sloane Vogt, earning distinction for her reining performance. Vogt finished the season with a 6-2-0 record and a spot on the NCEA All-America First Team with three Most Outstanding Player honors. All three of Vogt’s M.O.P. wins came away from OneWood Farm, picking up her first at Texas A&M, and then back-to-back award wins against Auburn to close the regular season on the plains and in the SEC Championship semifinal. Vogt also earned NCEA Reining Rider of the Month honors for November 2020, SEC Reining Rider of the Fall honors and co-SEC Reining Rider of the Month for March.
Junior Caroline Bald added to her growing list of accomplishments with her All-SEC flat honor. Bald wrapped up her season with a 5-2-0 record and a spot on the NCEA All-America Second Team. She claimed one M.O.P. honor on the season for her win against Lynchburg to open the spring. The junior picked up multiple road wins with victories at Georgia, at Auburn, and against Auburn in the SEC Championship semifinal.
Freshman Emma Lane found herself in the starting lineup from the first meet of the season, but never let that challenge shake her as she earned a spot on the All-SEC reining team. Lane wrapped up the season with a 4-3-1 record and a pair of M.O.P. wins, the first coming against Georgia at OneWood Farm in November, and the other coming against Texas A&M on senior day in Blythewood. Lane proved that she’s going to be a force in the SEC for years to come with her final two wins of the season, closing the regular season with a win at Auburn, and following that with another win over Auburn in the SEC Championship semifinal meet.
Rounding out the All-SEC honorees is junior Trinity Hammerschmidt, earning the honors for her work on the flat. Hammerschmidt finished the season with a 6-3-0 record and one M.O.P. honor. The junior was the beacon of consistency in the regular season, rattling off five wins in a row, including her M.O.P. win at Georgia and a regular season finale win at Auburn. Hammerschmidt ended the season with a win over Texas A&M in the SEC Championship consolation match.
In addition to her All-SEC reining honor, Lane earned a spot on the All-Freshman reining team. Joining Lane on the squad is Chloe Stephenson and Emilia Reutimann. Stephenson earned a win in her Carolina debut against Auburn back in October, while Reutimann emerged victorious in her debut ride against Georgia in November.
On the jumping seat side of things freshmen Alexa Aureliano and Maya Clarkson earned All-Freshman honors for fences and flat, respectively. Aureliano made one start at Texas A&M, while Clarkson found herself starting twice this season, winning her debut ride against Texas A&M in Bryan-College Station.
