Milazzo Makes NWSL Roster, Signs with Chicago
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina has added a 12th name to the current professional ranks when former defender Tatumn Milazzo was named to the Chicago Red Stars roster, announced by the club Monday.
Milazzo making the team makes a total of four Gamecocks in the NWSL ranks in 2021. Milazzo joins Savannah McCaskill (Louisville), Taylor Leach (Kansas City) and Kaleigh Kurtz (North Carolina) as former Gamecocks in the league. Milazzo last played with Carolina in 2019 where she left as a three-time SEC Champion, helping Carolina win titles in 2016, 2017 and in 2019. However, Milazzo ended her career in South Carolina with a knee injury on senior night against Ole Miss. Milazzo was forced to miss the remainder of the season, but continued her soccer career post college that has ended up in a professional roster spot with her hometown team.
Milazzo was a key part of Carolina’s back line for a number of seasons, helping post some of the best defensive numbers in the country each and every season. Milazzo added three goals and three assists in her time in the Garnet and Black, and was a All-SEC Second Team member in 2017. Milazzo was a starter on the Gamecocks’ 2017 College Cup team, helping the program reach the pinnacle of NCAA Soccer as an outside back. With Milazzo’s help, South Carolina’s defense had a goals against average of 0.41 (2016), 0.47 (2017), 0.56 (2018) and 0.32 (2019) during her four seasons within the program, easily one of the best stretches in NCAA Soccer history that led to 50 shutouts.
Milazzo’s professional contract makes 12 current Gamecocks currently under contract on the professional level around the world, good enough for the most by any team in the SEC.
