Manning Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team
She is the third member of the program to make the team in the last five years
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina volleyball senior Kyla Manning was named to the 2020-21 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team Thursday afternoon. The team recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Manning carries a 3.71 grade point average in her Biological Sciences master’s program and is the 14thGamecock in program history to make the team. Three Gamecocks have made the all-district team over the last five seasons, with Megan Kirkland in 2016 and Mikayla Shields in 2017. Manning, a Stone Mountain, Ga. native, graduated in just three seasons while at Coastal Carolina and joined the Gamecocks ahead of the 2020-21 school year.
South Carolina’s district also includes Division I universities from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Puerto Rico.
Along with her outstanding academic accomplishments, Manning led the Gamecocks on the court as well in an unorthodox year. In a 22-game schedule that stretched from September to March, Manning eclipsed 1,000 career collegiate kills after leading the team with 273. That total in a SEC-only schedule is the third-highest total in conference play in the modern scoring era. Defensively, Manning ranked second on team with 188 digs with just five reception errors on 343 chances in serve receive.
All of the Academic All-District honorees now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Manning would be just the fourth Gamecock in program history to be on the national team, the last being Sarah Cline in 2009. First-, second- and third-team all-America honorees will be announced in early July.
