Gamecocks at AmeriCup Thursday Recap

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – All four members of the South Carolina women’s basketball team earned wins on Thursday with the United States, Canada and Brazil advancing to the semifinals of the AmeriCup on Thursday at Coliseo Roberto Clemente. 

Sophomore Laeticia Amihere shined as Canada dispatched the Dominican Republic team, 90-53. Amihere locked in on both ends of the court, pouring in 17 points while she pulled down 11 rebounds. The sophomore also tallied three assists and three steals in the win that pushed Canada into the semifinals. 

In the first game of the day sophomore Aliyah Boston had another strong outing for the United States, dropping 12 points and eight rebounds in a 97-46 win over the US Virgin Islands. Boston also notched two blocks and two assists.  Junior Destanni Henderson got in on the action with seven points and eight assists in the win.  

Freshman Kamilla Cardoso wrapped up a successful day for the Gamecocks, scoring 12 points and snagging nine rebounds as Brazil downed Venezuela, 90-59. Cardoso also dished out a pair of assists in the victory. 

The stage is set for more Gamecock vs. Gamecock action on Friday as the United States faces Brazil in one of the semifinal games set for a 6:10 p.m. ET tipoff. In the nightcap Canada faces the winner of the Puerto Rico vs. Colombia game later tonight. The second semifinal tips off at 9:10 p.m. Friday night.
