Hall Ranked No. 3 in Initial PGA TOUR U Rankings
Rising senior set to make PGA TOUR debut this week at 3M Open on sponsor exemption
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The first PGA TOUR University Ranking for the 2022 summer class was released on Tuesday. Rising senior Ryan Hall, a 2021 PING First Team All-American, is ranked No. 3 in the first set of rankings. The list features the top-25 rising seniors across NCAA Division I Men’s Golf.
The PGA TOUR University Ranking, which started last season, is designed to identify the best college golfers based on winning, competitiveness and season-long performance. At the conclusion of the 2022 NCAA Championship at Grayhawk, the top-15 players in the Class of 2022 will earn status on the Korn Ferry Tour. Players who finish in the top-five will be named to the PGA TOUR U First Team and receive Korn Ferry Tour membership, and players who finish 6th through 15th will be named to the PGA TOUR U Second Team and earn membership on a PGA TOUR international tour.
The Class of 2022 ranking period begins Week 24/2020 and will conclude May 30, 2022, following the stroke play portion at the National Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz. The complete PGA TOUR U Class of 2022 Ranking will be released prior to the start of the fall season in late August 2021.
Hall is currently in Blaine, Minn. where he is set to make his PGA TOUR debut at this week’s 3M Open. He earned a sponsor exemption into the event with his win at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational back on Easter Sunday. He shot 202 (-14) at Forest Hills Golf Club with a bogey free 66 (-6) in the second round. Hall carded a final round 64 (-8), chipping in for eagle at the last hole to force a playoff with Pepperdine All-American Dylan Menante. He made birdie on both playoff holes to win.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native then went on to win the 2021 Albuquerque Regional, becoming just the third regional champion in school history with his one-shot victory at UNM’s Championship Course on May 19. Hall, a First Team All-SEC and PING All-Southeast Region selection, put together one of the best seasons overall in program history in 2020-21 with six top-10s, four top-fives and his two wins (three overall for his career). His career scoring average of 70.79 is the lowest in program history.
After competing in the 2021 NCAA Championship as an individual, Hall went on to become the first Gamecock golfer to play for the United States in the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup. He helped lead the U.S. side to victory, 33-27, with a 1-up Sunday singles win over Yuxin Lin. Hall is currently ranked No. 22 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking as of July 14.
Former Gamecock golf standouts Matt NeSmith and Mark Anderson will also be in the field this week alongside Hall at the 3M Open.
