Women's Soccer Unveils 2021 Schedule

Gamecocks Open Campaign August 12

The 2021 University of South Carolina women’s soccer schedule has been released, it was announced today. The 18-game regular season slate consists of nine home matches at venerable Stone Stadium.

The 2021 schedule will feature four matches against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, along with a season-opening exhibition at Wake Forest on Thursday, August 12. The schedule has a trio of first-time opponents in The Citadel, Boston College and Virginia Tech, and is highlighted with the annual in-state battle against Clemson.

“We are truly looking forward to being back at Stone Stadium this fall and having the chance to start with a home game to kick off the regular season,” said head coach Shelley Smith. “Our fans have always been tremendous and provide one of the best college soccer atmospheres you can find, so it will be so nice to see our stands full once again! We have a very competitive schedule all season and will showcase some outstanding games at home,” added Smith. “It should be an exciting return for our fans who will be joining us this fall at Stone Stadium.”

After the season-opening exhibition at Wake Forest, the 2021 regular season gets underway at home on Thursday, Aug. 19, when the Gamecocks host The Citadel in a 7 pm start at Stone Stadium.

Carolina’s next three contests will all be on the road, with the Gamecocks traveling to College of Charleston on Aug. 22, East Carolina on Aug. 26 and NC State on Aug. 29. The trip to Charleston will be the squad’s first since 2002. The Gamecocks are a perfect 6-0 all-time against ECU and 6-2 against the Wolfpack.

The Gamecocks open the month of September with back-to-back non-conference home matches against Boston College on Sept. 3 and Charlotte on Sept. 6, setting up a Sept. 9 showdown at Clemson for the Palmetto State bragging rights.

The non-conference portion of the schedule wraps up with a home match on Sunday, Sept. 12, against Virginia Tech, the first meeting on the pitch between the two schools.

The SEC slate opens with a Sept. 16 trip to Missouri where the Gamecocks will put their six-game winning streak on the line against the Tigers. Carolina’s conference home open is slated for Sept. 23 versus Vanderbilt. That weekend concludes with a trip to Kentucky on Sept. 26.

The seven-match October schedule gets started with an Oct. 1 home contest against Auburn. The following week, the Gamecocks will travel to Ole Miss on Oct. 7, before hosting Tennessee on Oct. 10.

The Gamecocks are home for back-to-back matches for just the second time this season, as they will host Georgia on Oct. 15.

The following week has Smith taking her squad to the Bayou for an Oct. 21 date with the LSU Tigers. The home portion of the 2021 schedule wraps up with an Oct. 24 match against Alabama. The regular season closes on Oct. 28 at Florida.

The 2021 SEC Championships will take place once again in Orange Beach, Ala. from Oct. 31- Nov. 7.

The Gamecocks finished the 2020-21 season with an 11-5 record, including a 6-2 mark in SEC play, reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
