Hall Shoots 65, Gamecocks T-7th at Puerto Rico Classic

First Team All-American recorded his 21st career top-20 finish

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico — South Carolina finished T-7th in the team’s spring opener on Tuesday at the Puerto Rico Classic. The Gamecocks carded a final round 277 (-11) to finish the tournament with a 54-hole tally of 829 (-35).
 
Senior All-American Ryan Hall fired a season-best round of 65 (-7) to climb the leaderboard and finish 15th with a 54-hole mark of 204 (-12). The Knoxville, Tenn., native was bogey free until the 16th hole of his round. He made eight birdies and led the team with 16 on the week. Hall has now finished in the top-20 in all four of his starts this season. He has 21 top-20s total in 29 career starts.
 
Junior Jack Wall and sophomore Rafe Reynolds each shot 2-under scores of 70. Senior transfer Evans Lewis was the final counting score with an even par 72. True freshman Nathan Franks also shot 72 after posting back-to-back 68s the first two days. He T-22nd at 8-under overall.
 
Freshman Gene Zeigler, who was playing as an individual this week, shot 78 (+6).
 
The Gamecocks were on pace to post a new 18-hole season best score as a team today, but the counting scores lost six shots coming down the stretch.   
 
Top-ranked Oklahoma went low shooting a field best 268 (-20) in the final round to win by six shots over No. 12 Georgia. The Sooners’ Chris Gotterup took home individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 196 (-20). He earned a sponsor’s exemption into the PGA TOUR’s Puerto Rico Open with the win.
