No. 3 South Carolina Finishes T-7th at Moon Golf Invitational

Hannah Darling and Justine Fournand finished strong today each shooting 69 (-3)

MELBOURNE, Fla. — No. 3 South Carolina T-7th in a loaded field at the 2022 Moon Golf Invitational on Tuesday on the heels of low rounds from freshman Hannah Darling and junior transfer Justine Fournand. Both players carded 3-under 69s and the team shot 285 (-3).

Darling climbed 22 spots on the leaderboard to creep inside the top-20. She shot 4-under on the back nine and closed with back-to-back birdies. Fournand climbed 25 spots on the leaderboard to creep inside the top-40. She also finished strong with back-to-back-to-back birdies.

“Good to see some birdies fall today, which should bring us some momentum for our next tournament in a few days,” said head coach Kalen Anderson. “Overall, this team is playing very solid and steady, and we need to continue to be patient and confident in exactly what we are doing. Great golf is in our near future.”

Junior Mathilde Claisse paced the Gamecocks with a T-14th finish. She shot 70 (-2) in the final round with four birdies, all coming on a 3-under front nine (33).

Carolina’s final counting score was a 77 (+5) by graduate transfer Tai Anudit. Freshman Louise Rydqvist also shot 77 (+5). Sophomore Paul Kirner played as an individual this week and closed her tournament with a 78 (+6).

The Gamecocks finished third in the field this week with 178 pars. They finished ninth with 40 birdies.

Carolina returns to action next week as it host the 10th edition of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate (Feb. 28-March 2). This year’s event is historic for women’s collegiate golf as Golf Channel will be televising all three days live from 2:30-5:30 p.m. (ET) at Long Cove Club. It’s the first all-women’s regular season event televised by the network.
