No. 4 South Carolina Concludes Day One of Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — No. 4 South Carolina battled in cool and windy conditions on Monday in the first round of the 2022 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks shot 303 (+19) and are T-16^th with No. 28 Kentucky.
 
Despite a tough opening round, Carolina is just nine shots out of the top-five with 36 holes still left to play on a challenging golf course.
 
No. 21 Baylor shot the round of the day with a 287 (+3). No. 11 Texas is lurking close behind posting a first round score of 289 (+5).
 
Tai Anudit is T-22^nd to lead the Gamecocks after shooting 73 (+2). Mathilde Claisse is T-37^th after shooting 74 (+3). Sophomore Paula Kirner, who is playing as individual this week, also shot 73 (+2) and is T-22^nd with Anudit and 13 other players.
 
Freshmen Lousie Rydqvist (77, +6) and Hannah Darling (79, +8) were the final counting scores for Carolina. Justine Fournand also shot 79 (+8). Sophomore Abbey Schimpf made her debut in Garnet and Black today as an individual and shot 82 (+11).
 
Furman’s Anna Morgan shot the round of the day with a 69 (-2). She made six birdies on the day, a field best. She leads by one over six other players. Just 11 players in the 90-women field shot par or better on Monday.
 
Team’s will enjoy a private Darius Rucker concert, a tournament tradition, tonight in an intimate setting at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.
 
The Gamecocks will tee off on hole 10 tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. (ET) alongside No. 18 Auburn and No. 22 Duke again. Golf Channel will again be providing live TV coverage from 2:30-5:30 p.m.
