No. 4 Gamecocks Co-Champs of Valspar Augusta Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. — No. 4 South Carolina picked up its third win of the season on Sunday at the 2022 Valspar Augusta Invitational. The Gamecocks were co-champs of the event finishing T-1^st with No. 25 Ole Miss at 14-over (590). This year’s event was shortened to 36 holes due to cold temperatures and high winds on day one Saturday.
 
The Gamecocks shot a final round 289 (+1) today at Forest Hills Golf Club led by a 3-under 69 from graduate transfer Tai Anudit. She paced the team with five birdies in round two, moving 22 spots up the leaderboard. Freshman Louise Rydqvist shot 72 (E) and made five birdies as she finished T-18^th at 6-over.
 
Freshman Hannah Darling shot 73 (+1) and finished T-2^nd at 1-over for the tournament. . Darling trailed by one going into the final hole and gave herself a chance at 18 to tie eventual champion Natalia Yoko of Augusta after stuffing her approach inside six feet. She just missed her birdie attempt.
 
Junior Mathilde Claisse was the final counting score with a 75 (+3). Junior transfer Justine Fournand shot 77 (+5). Both finished just outside the top-20 in the 90-player field.
 
Sophomore Paula Kirner played as individual this week and finished T-10^th at 4-over for the tournament. She carded a final round 73 (+1) on Sunday.
 
Today’s win was the 20^th of head coach Kalen Anderson’s career at South Carolina.
 
The Gamecocks will be off for two weeks before teeing it up again at the Liz Murphy Collegiate (March 25-27).
