Gamecocks Host Two Ranked SEC Opponents

Columbia, S.C. – No. 7 South Carolina men’s tennis will host No. 28 Mississippi State on Friday at 5 p.m. and No. 31 Ole Miss on Sunday at noon. Both matches are scheduled be played at the Carolina Tennis Center, weather permitting. Admission to the matches is free and open to the public.
 
Friday’s match will be streamed online as part of the Cracked Racquets SEC Redzone Coverage. Live stat and streaming links for both matches can be found on GamecocksOnline.com
 
Gamecock Notables

  • The Gamecocks are 13-4 on the season with four wins over top-10 opponents, including a win over the then-No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers on the road, helping them to a 2-2 mark in SEC action.
  • South Carolina is ranked No. 7 in the latest ITA and USTA polls. This marks the Gamecocks’ fourth-consecutive week in the top 10.
  • South Carolina is on a 13-match home win streak, dating back to the 2021 season.
  • Junior Daniel Rodrigues is 12-2 from the No. 1 singles position. He is ranked No. 16 in the latest ITA polls and took down No. 18 and No. 19 opponents during his last two singles matches.
  • In doubles, Rodrigues and partner Connor Thomson are ranked 30th in the nation. The duo is 10-2 from the No. 1 position and have taken down four ranked opponents.
  • Sophomore Toby Samuel is ranked No. 86 in the latest ITA poll. He is 9-3 in dual-match singles and 8-6 in doubles with partner Jake Beasley.

 
Scouting the Bulldogs

  • No. 28 Mississippi State is 11-6 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
  • The Bulldogs have two ranked singles players – No. 25 Florian Broska and No. 81 Nenanja Malesevic – and one ranked doubles pair – No. 65 Malesevic/Davide Tortora.
  • The Bulldogs jumped from No. 32 to No. 28 in the latest ITA polls following their weekend split with a win over No. 50 LSU and a loss to No. 28 Texas A&M.
  • Mississippi State leads the all-time series against South Carolina 23-11 and is on a five-match win streak over the Gamecocks. South Carolina’s last win was on April 16, 2017, at home.

 
Scouting the Rebels

  • No. 31 Ole Miss is 11-5 on the season and 1-2 in SEC action. Its only losses came against No. 4 TCU, No. 3 Baylor, No. 11 Southern California, No. 2 Tennessee, and No. 50 LSU. The Rebels hold ranked wins over No. 22 Oklahoma and No. 12 Texas A&M.
  • The Rebels have two ranked singles players – No. 21 Nikola Slavic and No. 104 Jan Soren Hain – and one ranked doubles pair – No. 2 Lukas Engelhardt/Finn Reynolds.
  • The second-ranked doubles pair of Engelhardt/Reynolds are 10-2 from the No. 1 doubles position.
  • Ole Miss holds a 26-12 lead in the all-time series over the Gamecocks but have not had a win over South Carolina since 2018.
